Black Duck and Olliance Group partner to accelerate Open Source adoption by business

San Francisco, Calif. - August 8, 2005 - LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. - Black Duck Software, the leading provider of software compliance management solutions, and Olliance Group, the premier open source management consulting firm today announced an alliance to help accelerate the adoption of open source software by business. The companies will work together to help clients develop and implement strategies to deal with the business, technical, and risk management issues posed by open source software. The partnership will promote more rapid, broad and confident use of open source, capitalizing on Olliance Group’s deep experience in open source business and strategy consulting and Black Duck’s protexIPTM automated software compliance management solutions. The two firms will conduct a variety of joint activities including the bundling of services, co-marketing programs, joint sales activities and cooperative conference presentations.

"As more and more companies build, sell, and deploy open source solutions, understanding how to select and comply with an open source license is becoming increasingly complex," said Andrew Aitken, managing partner of Olliance Group. "Black Duck’s solutions provide an excellent complement to our planning, risk management, and investment consulting services. Together we can help organizations leverage open source technologies for maximum competitive advantage and economic gain."

Black Duck’s protexIP software compliance management system brings developers, lawyers, and business decision-makers together within an automated system that lets development teams identify and control what components are used within their code base and automate the compliance process across their organization to support business policies.

"The exploding use of open source software has made it increasingly challenging for companies of all sizes to manage the business implications of open source use and to attest to the pedigree of their software assets," said Doug Levin, CEO of Black Duck Software. "Olliance Group’s rich customer experience and proven approach supported by Black Duck’s comprehensive license compliance platform will help bring developers, the legal community and technology decision-makers together to increase the pace of open source adoption."

As one of their first cooperative efforts, executives from Black Duck and Olliance Group will collaborate in speaking sessions at the upcoming OSBC Legal Workshop in Seattle, WA. on Sept. 7, 2005. Black Duck’s Karen Copenhaver, EVP and General Counsel, and Olliance Group’s Dave Dargo, Principal Consultant, will present sessions covering some of the most critical open source legal and business challenges affecting companies today.
